Re-pourposing Plastic Easter Eggs

Have you ever thought that you'd like to be able to re-purpose plastic Easter eggs, since they are usually used just for candy?  Well, since this blog is mainly about prepping, I am mainly going to focus on a few that I thought would be helpful for preppers and/or those who like to try out new ideas.  This is also a follow up to my post "HoneyBaked Ham Campaign"from several years ago.  I wanted to reshare this, because it was one of my favorite posts.  Enjoy and share!

So, here's my list:

  •  Seed Starter - Plastic Easter eggs already have drainage holes, so they're perfect to recycle as seed starters. Simply add a little bit of soil, your seeds, then store upright in a styrofoam or paper egg container.
  • Seed Packets - Plastic shells are the perfect size containers to reuse for storing garden seeds. Simply write the name of the seed on the egg in permanent marker.

  • Emergency Activity Kits - Use plastic Easter eggs to storing play dough, stickers or other quiet activities to have on hand in the car or purse for times when children need to be occupied.

Lighting -Make lights with plastic Easter eggs and flameless LED tealights inside or actual tealights, like the tealight holder below.  However, if you're uncomfortable burning candles inside the plastic eggs,  you can still use the battery-powered tealights sold at discount stores.

*Poke two holes in opposite sides, run a string of lights through the eggs and seal the eggs. This works as a handmade patio light set or party light set.

  •  Snack Containers-Give Easter eggs a year-round use (and save on resealable bags) by filling them with snacks like crackers or Cheerios. These are great for picnics, hiking trips, or bugging out, in to satisfy hunger, or satisfy a snack attack.

  • Change Pouch - Secure loose change in one place, in case that's all you have.  Keep loose change organized on a dresser or in your car by placing it in plastic Easter eggs.  Also, store rare coins, so that you are less likely to accidentally spend that state quarter or wheat penny.  Gold and Silver could be easily tucked away (wink wink) and hiding in plain sight. Cash too!

  • Packing Filler - Need a cheap, lightweight filler for storage boxes or mail a small item.

    • Eye Glass Repair Kit - Keep small eyeglasses screwdriver and screws in a plastic Easter egg since it is much easier to find a brightly colored plastic egg in a junk drawer than a small screwdriver.
    •   Store Cotton Balls -Place cotton balls in plastic Easter eggs. Takes up little space and keeps them clean.
    •  Travel Sewing/Mending Kit - Pack some thread and a needle in one for a travel sewing kit.
    • First-Aid Kit - Keep band-aids in plastic eggs when traveling

    • Store necklaces, basic wants,  and other valuables. - Keep necklaces from getting tangled by placing one in an egg, along with hair ties, and bobby pins. Great for travel, bugging out, or hiding in plain sight at home.

    • Egg Weight - This could be used as a perfect solution to prevent table cloths from blowing off pick-nick tables, or possibly tarps over items kept outside.

    • Emergency Dog or Cat Food - Store dog or Cat Food while you travel, or for when you are far from home and/or their next meal.   Also, it is a little known fact that chasing the egg, and rolling it around will help with their mental stimulation and development.
    Additional Uses:

    • For women, eyeliner brushes can easily fit into one of these eggs.
    • You can store push-pins and thumbtacks in these eggs so they don’t get lost or mixed in with other items.
    • The eggs are good for storing screws when you are working on a project such as the computer or a piece of furniture.
    • Paper clips, pins, and clips always seem to get lost in the junk drawer. This would work to keep them at least in one place.
    • Batteries also work well with large plastic Easter eggs since they also tend to get lost when needed.
    • If you poke a few holes in one, it can be filled with potpourri to use as an air freshener.
    • Use them for party favors for birthday gifts.
    • Use them as prize incentives. Because of their size, they can easily hold a temporary tattoos or stickers. Kids love rewards and  surprises. Keeping some eggs year-round to fill with little treats is a great way to motivate your kids.

Thank you for reading!  God bless you wherever you are,and whatever you are going through during this season of hope and grace.
