Top ten Tips and Tricks for the Budget Bride. Oh, Wait! That's Me!

OK....no panic here, but it's exactly one month before my wedding, and I've been trying to work out too many details.  I've been pinteresting it up (is that a word? lol), reading every online article for my interests, as well as other brides hopefully, and muddling through what I can actually afford.  There's so much information out there that my head almost exploded.  So, I'm having to learn how to breathe and carving out what I want for my big day.  I am hoping that some of my incites will help other brides, or even those who need help planning other life events. This is a big focus for me, because I've never had the big formal event, however; I don't have a lot of $ to spend, so this prepper has had become a budget bride.

My top 10 tips and tricks stem from a lot of resources, and consist of these few:
  • Find a cheap venue through a friend, or family member or even airbnb.com. However, watch out for homeowners who want to charge you a "event fee" just for having your wedding at their home, & Yes! That happened to me.  So, I thank God for my Matron of Honor, Rhonda, who found my venue, which honestly was exactly what I was looking for.  It was literally 1/4 of what most venues start at near where I live, and my Mom offered to pay for it. Score! There's even a gazebo outside, and I have access to a kitchen and a few bedrooms for 2 days.  It is also where I will have my rehearsal dinner and practice.

  • Find someone you know to preside over you ceremony, if you do not have a pastor you trust. Evidently, it's easy to get ordained online these days.  However, I ask a family friend, we call Bobby, who I've known since I was five, and had in recent months gotten his license before he officiated his youngest daughter's wedding.

Find wedding favors through a website like ruffledblog.com or handmade through etsy. Also, search the web for deals and discounts, while maybe thinking outside the box for ideas.  I had some created through Label Daddy.  I designed them myself with Label Daddy's help and it's a great product.  Most of their products are for labeling kids items and are awesome.  You can help kids or adults keep up with special items with ease.  I just put my own little twist them.  Here they are!  Aren't they cute?!

Right now you can Save 20% on Label Daddy labels!  These labels are extremely durable peel-and-stick washable labels, and they are even washer/dryer, microwave, and dishwasher safe, while being UV resistant! Label Daddy labels are also fun and attractive.  It is your design and your choice of options. Get creative!

Save 20% on your entire Label Daddy order - this is the best discount available anywhere. Use code USFAMILY20 at checkout. http://www.usfamily20.labeldaddy.com.

<a href="http://ruffledblog.com"><img src="http://ruffledmedia.ruffled.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/upLoads/Ruffled_13-Featured-BLUE.png" alt="Featured on Ruffled" border="none"></a
  • Find specific decorations you want through eBay or even Craigslist, and guess what even Oriental Trading Co has tons of stuff you need. Even the Dollar Store will do in a pinch! Look over my Dollar Store Awesomeness on Pinterest.

  • Find an online seamstress, yes even ebay, for your dress.  You can actually find a vendor who can copy the exact dress you desire, but for about 1/8th of the price you saw from your favorite designer.  You may need to get another seamstress locally to take it in, but this option is so worth the money you'll save a ton of money overall.

  • Find shoes, that you can always dye and even add touches to, like bling, flowers, and sparkle.  Don't make a big deal of buying on the cheap.  No one else will know (wink..wink), or should really care.

  • Find inexpensive cake options, like cupcakes, cake pops, and small cakes, and tiered ones, through Groupon.com and other deal sites.  These are usually 1/2 of what you pay most bake shops.

Cupcake Class or Cupcakes - Occasionally Cake | Groupon

Hint: If you buy from Groupon.com, buy more than one certificate and take someone else with you to shop for the purchase of your order.  Just divide the order into two, etc.  In addition, maybe a family member or friend has already offered to help out or make something or buy for something you want.   I got lucky because one friend, Joy, is going to be buying at least 1/2 of my cake needs as a wedding present, and less than two days ago, I had another friend, Silvana, offer her husbands cheesecake (Bob who is also a close friend too) as a groom's cake. Yay! I've tasted it before and it's AWESOME!
  • Invitations don't have to be expensive.  I literally got mine from Michael's and used a 40% off coupon on different dates.  I am printing them from home to save on costs as well.  Most of the invites I saw online, started out at the very least closer to the $2 mark and that's not including envelopes, postage, or any extras you might want to include in the envelope. I'm mailing out at least 100 invites, so that would not even fit into my budget, even with the online options.
These are the ones I went with.

  • As far as food, there are a few options to help save.  Costco and Sam's are great for appetizers and mini deserts.  A family member who can cook is always a great option.  Pasta and other items can be purchased for cheap, especially if you are a coupon user.  You can also find a caterer who will deliver to you or allow you to pick up and serve yourself via a buffet style.

  • Your honeymoon should be what you've dreamed of, but I still has to be realistic.  Again, sites like Groupon, may have what you are looking for at a much lower rate.  Signing up for travel discount cites (just google), are a great place to start.  I have a family friend who has access to a 7 day trip for me and my Hubie to be, but we still have to find a way to get there and provide money food, excursions, etc. lol.  So, it will be planned when we have the time and money to take advantage of this gift.  If you already have kids, you will understand why you may have to wait.

Last little things......

  • Take  your time, even if it's limited.
  • You're probably going to cry, so lean on your family and bridesmaids.
  •  Reach out because you never know who wants to help.
  •  Keep your sense of humor, because sometimes that helps you keep your sanity.
Please comment below if you found anything helpful for you or a bride to be you may know, and share often.  It is always appreciated.

    Changing up my Blog!

Sorry that I haven't posted things in a while, and that it may seem like I've gone MIA.  Have no fear!

I'm back and ready to explore different topics, as it relates to travel and bugging out.  I've decided to

take my blog into familiar and unfamiliar territory.  Along with the usual travel and bugging out

items, I am going to try my hand at writing a blog dedicated more to travel than the possible future

of  "bugging out".  Don't worry, even if you are one of those who want to prepare for what "might

be" or "will be", as far as it comes to emergency preparedness, I will still explore that as well.  It is

definitely a need!  So, come and hang out ever so often, and see what's new on The Pampered

Prepper's blog.  I don't think you'll be disappointed!  I look forward to learning new things about

travel, items for travel, cool travel deals, and travel hacks with everyday items, while sharing them

    all with you.

    HoneyBaked Ham Campaign

This shop has been compensated by HoneyBaked Ham, Inc. and its advertiser. However, all opinions are mine alone. #HoneyBakedEaster

Many traditional Easter dishes are usually served at our tables, because of family favorite recipes, and/or because certain items were mainly available during the Spring season. Modern transportation has changed what is available to us, the convenience in getting those products, which can add more variety to our menu, and allows us to plan Easter Dinner in a more cohesive manner.

In order to decide "what should I make for Easter dinner", you will need to know how many people you are feeding.  For example, in order to feed an average sized family, you should pick a main dish, a few side dishes, bread, and a dessert. If you are serving more than a few people, consider asking guests to contribute dishes.

So, with the family gathering together, you probably want a great meal that will look equally fabulous on your "good dishes" or kid-friendly paper plates. Easter is a wonderful time to prepare foods you might not cook all the time, but not for those dishes you don't normally make or haven't made before. It's probably best if you delay any experimental cooking for nights when ordering pizza, or Chinese take-out would be an option for mistakes.

Now, this year, instead of making Easter Dinner ahead of time, while stressing over every last detail, or what I might have forgotten to pick up from the store, I received an offer to try HoneyBaked Ham.  I was given $75 to purchase Ham, a Turkey Breast, and sides and/or a desert.  Of Course, I jumped at the chance to review these products, not only for myself, but for others who would appreciate a great value.

After stopping by a HoneyBaked Ham location nearest to my home, I suddenly realized that this opportunity, and welcomed alternative, would give me more time to spend with my family, and less time spent in the kitchen. Wow!  How could I say no?  Especially, with all that HoneyBaked Ham products, such as fully cooked and delicious hams, turkey, heat Heat and Serve side dishes, and even desert!

While serving this to my family, I thoroughly enjoyed, not only the convenience, but the simplicity of giving my family a delicious home cooked meal.  The wonderful thing is, I didn't have to do all of the work!  HoneyBaked Ham took out most of the guess work of what was for dinner, and offered me a budget saving, less time consuming alternative to having to make everything from scratch myself, while usually having to shop at several places, in order to gather the ingredients, instead HoneyBaked Ham provided me with a "one-stop" shopping experience.  "Vive La Différence!"

    What I purchased:
      • Quarter/Mini Ham,
      • Turkey Breast, and
      • 2 Side Dishes (Note that these may vary by location).  I chose creamy Yukon Mashed Potatoes and scrumptious Macaroni & Cheese.

To sweeten the deal, HoneyBaked Ham is currently offering a great coupon.  It is
available to print for your Easter Ham purchase:

Offer valid 3.14.15 – 4.4.15. Must present coupon at time of purchase to receive offer. May not be combined with any other offer. One coupon per person at participating retail store locations. While supplies last.

With the purchase of at least $50, you will receive $5 off.  That's a great deal for such yummy products!  So, stop off at your nearest HoneyBaked Ham location, and let their friendly staff help you decide on a menu for your family or get together this Easter season.  With so many choices, you'll be tempted to try it all!

Please comment below on what you buy and share any particular items that you were amazed by.  Although, you may be caught between favorites. It's all so tasty!

    Happy Easter
    From The Pampered Prepper !

So, what should I do with the leftovers?  Well, sandwiches are always a tasty choice!  Also, making a craft involving the kiddos and/or guests to take them home with them.

Example:  You can pick up containers used for left-overs, just like the ones used in restaurants.  They are easily accessible at your neighborhood dollar store.  Decorate them with stickers, as well as crayons or markers, in order to add your own style.

My daughter Livier.  She was so proud of her design.

Trick: Use a wine glass or other clear glass to make serving a cupcake a bit more interesting!  Simply turn it upside down.  It really puts the sparkle on the desert!  Get your kids involved.  They really like to help.

Tip: Add a savory side to your meal, like your favorite biscuits.
In the event that there are any biscuits left over, they will make great ham and/or turkey sandwiches!

Tip: Put all those traditional died Easter eggs to good   use by turning them into deviled eggs.  A delicious and colorful alternative to just throwing them away.

Tricks: Left over plastic Easter Egg uses:

Use  for a light source to play outside, or string them up for a different and festive look.
Kiddos will love this twist on a traditional egg hunt as well!

Snack Containers:  Give plastic Easter eggs a
year-round use (and save on resealable bags) by filling them with snacks like crackers, chips, dried fruit, or Cheerios. These are great for picnics, hiking trips, or kids lunches, in order to satisfy hunger, or indulge a snack attack.

Additional Tips & Tricks for Easter plastic eggs:

    • Hair-tie holder
    • Manicure set
    • Lotion
    • Shampoo and/or Soaps
    • Paper Clip or Battery holder (So they don't get lost in your desk)
    • Eyeglass repair kit
    • Sewing kit
    • Make-up
    • Cotton balls or Q-tips
    • Toy Incentive for behavior

Other uses are up to your own imagination!

I am going to use these plastic Easter eggs to fill my children's lunches, Easter Basket (sort of like the traditional Christmas stocking-stuffers), and as toiletry items for travel (suitcases/backpacks/handbags). In addition, my family plans on taking items similar to the ones above to an elderly person, or persons as a service project.  What a wonderful Easter surprise this will be!
